An interesting blend of Coffee and Chocolate
Over the recent Spring Bank Holiday we were visiting Thame in Oxfordshire, where we spotted Rumsey’s – a Chocolaterie Cafe, whose main business appears to be creating hand-made chocolates but with a shop and cafe. As we like both coffee and chocolate, we decided to visit. The inside was welcoming and comfortable; we sat at the back of the cafe. Service was “at table”, so we ordered coffee (Americano and Latte) accompanied by a gluten-free pistachio macaroon and home-made ginger cake. The order was delivered, well presented, and included a (free) chocolate drop each – a nice touch.
It is clearly an artisan chocolate shop rather than an artisan coffee shop. Nonetheless, the coffee was very good as was the cake. Regarding the macaroon? Well, I don’t usually like Americanisms, but it just awesome (it’s worth returning just for one of those).
Apart from their hand made chocolate, they also make chocolate covered coffee beans, so we bought a pack on the way out. These were excellent too, and although the pack contains a generous amount, they didn’t last too long! I know mixing coffee and chocolate in this way is not new, but their recipe/product was delicious.
In summary, the coffee and snacks were very good, and the chocolate products we tried were tasty. Overall, a nice experience.
If you are visiting Thame, or just driving through, it’s worth visiting. They are immediately next to a large free car park which makes for a hassle-free visit.
As a coffee blog, we are not rating the chocolate experience, just the coffee experience.
